The site and it's adjacent surroundings influence the design. Wind plays a major role in the design therefore I choose the materials to help diminish it’s intensity to make the gathering spaces enjoyable. I redesigned the bridge’s structure with custom welded tubular steel to emphasize and hide views. I used ASTM steel to cantilever off the existing pier caps, widening the pedestrian walkways. Each gathering space in above Mill Creek has fresh air and direct light because of the ETFE. This material is usually seen in large stadiums because of its high corrosion resistance and strength over a wide temperature range. The flourine based plastic in ETFE allows it to be self cleaning and recyclable.
